Well due to popular demand… We have decided to do a hair post!
We’ve been featured on the O’Naturals blog (Eki & Tiwa)
Eki’s 2 cents:
You might also want to check Kim Love on KimmayTube and educate yourself.
You can find a video on how I wash my hair here
I use a lot of coconut oil, here’s a video on it and it’s importance from Miss V Charles on youtube.

I don’t really do much to my hair, it’s always in protective styling most of the time. When I take it out I use my glycerin, water and olive oil mix to detangle, put it in sections and wash it with organix coconut milk shampoo and conditioner/hello hydration conditioner by garnier. I re-twist it with any leave in conditioner and moisturizer (or shea butter/shea butter mix) and let it air dry so I can have a twist out style later. When taking down my twists I do it with a bit of coconut oil (just enough to avoid frizz and drench every where my hair touches in coconut oil lol). I use jojoba oil or coconut oil on my scalp every now and then (mostly to avoid dandruff, cuz I tend to have a lot after I take out my protective styles like braids, twists or weaves).
The styles I do with my hair (that you’ve probably seen pictures of on the blog) include mini twists, dry and wet twist outs, the classic afro and sometimes a puff, when I want the less in-your-face look. My mummy said my hair always announces my arrival before I enter a room… lol, she wanted me to tone it down a bit.
I’m pretty simple when it comes to my hair, I try not to stress it so it doesn’t stress me.
I just recently took out my twists, had them in for 2 months and that’s the longest I’ve had them in for. They still looked pretty good when I was taking them out and I Looooooved the color but it was time for it to go, my scalp started hurting and I was scared of all the hair on my hairline falling out. It’s in mini twists now so I’ll update you on how they turn out.

Tiwa’s 2 (or 3 or 4 or 5) cents:
So I really don’t have a fixed routine when it comes to my hair because quite frankly, I don’t see that much of it. 80% of the time, it’s in braids, therefore every time I wear it out, I tend try new products and techniques. I recently just took out my yarn braids, and I honestly thought I could hear angels singing as they were falling off my head. I had had these braids in since December last year… bear in mind we’re now in March. Before you judge me, let me just explain that….
Okay. I was about to try and think up an excuse but I’ve decided to tell the truth and let the devil be ashamed. In all honestly, I really just got lazy and had no time to fiddle with my hair for the last 3 months lol.
Anyhoo: these are some (not-so-excellent) pictures of what my braids looked like:
Personally, I really hate taking out hair, so the entire process took me about 5 hours, 2 of which were spent complaining and sulking about how I hate taking out hair, another 2 of which involved the actual act of me taking out my hair, and the last of which involved me throwing a tantrum (there may or many not have been tears). This is what my scalp looked like when I was about halfway done:

And this is what my face looked like:

Clearly, I was NOT impressed.
Eventually, I reached the light at the end of the tunnel and ended up with 3 puff puffs on my head:
At this point, I was very tempted to just call it a day and go to bed like this… but then I remembered I had church the next morning, and did not want to walk in there looking like a poodle. After all, I never know where my future husband may be lurking.. (*ahem* This is not a sub).
Now, usually when I wear my hair out, I leave it in it’s natural afro-ish state. But this time, I wanted to straighten it out, just to see how much it had grown and what other styles I could experiment with. I was a bit apprehensive when looking for what products to buy, because I needed something strong. My hair is color treated, and putting heat on top of that may cause damage, so I wanted to protect it properly. While washing and conditioning, I used mainly heat treatment products. This is a picture of the heat protectant I used:
I was a bit skeptical because most heat products are meant to be left in the hair during the heating process, but this one needs to be rinsed out. But I was too lazy to go back to the store and get something else, so I decided to take my chances. After washing and conditioning, my hair was reduced to it’s TWA state:

At this point, my sister decided to dent my self esteem by telling me I bear a striking resemblance to Wanda Sykes. If that name doesnt ring a bell, this is what she looks like:

Next, I decided to straighten it. It’s really hard to go from one extreme to the other (TWA to straight hair), so I decided to take some baby steps and blow it out first:

I put some raw shea butter, olive oil moisturizer and hair polish in it. And then I began straightening:

And the finished product:
Granted, I sleep like a drunk cow and when I woke up the next morning, my hair looked nothing like this. But it was still straight and it looked pretty good. So this is what I’m working with at the moment. I’m not sure how long it’ll last, but I’m hoping I can maintain it by straightening every two weeks, and blow drying when I need to.
*****UPDATE******
I thought I’d show you what my hair looks like, two days later. I’m supposed to have been sleeping with it in a scarf, but….yeah… didn’t happen lol. Regardless, I think it’s been holding up pretty well:
